Switchboard Upgrade Experts
A switchboard upgrade is necessary when your existing board is outdated, overloaded, or no longer meets current safety standards. If your home still uses old ceramic fuses, lacks RCD protection, or you’re experiencing tripping circuits, buzzing sounds, or flickering lights, it’s likely time for an upgrade. Homes built before the 1990s often aren’t equipped to handle modern electrical loads from things like EV chargers, heat pumps, or upgraded appliances. Upgrading your switchboard keeps your home safer, brings it up to code, and ensures your power supply is reliable and future-ready.
To upgrade your switchboard, a licensed electrician will first assess your existing setup to check for safety risks, capacity issues, and compliance with current regulations. The upgrade typically includes removing old fuses, installing modern circuit breakers and RCDs (safety switches), and making sure the wiring and earthing are up to standard. Access to the switchboard is needed, and a temporary power shutdown will be arranged. If your board is inside, clearance around it may be required. Some homes may also need mains upgrades or surge protection depending on the age and layout. Once complete, you’ll receive a Certificate of Compliance for peace of mind.
